Remote Monitoring Improves Smart Elevator Maintenance
The Customer
Otis Elevator India Ltd is the world’s largest manufacturer of vertical transportation systems, principally focusing on elevators, moving walkways and escalators, driven by desire to innovate.
In October 2013, Otis won its biggest ever contract; it will supply 670 elevators and escalators to the Hyderabad Metro. They have global presence in 200 countries and territories and also offer the highest levels of personalized service, delivered by 31,000 expert mechanics worldwide.
Customer Expectations
Client needed a solution to drive IoT Enabled elevator that can give emergency alert if elevator is stuck due to power outage.
Most elevators will not work during a power outage, so client was expecting an IoT Solution to overcome this concern with pre warning notification of power failure as well as location out alert should be reflected on User Dashboard or Application.
The Challenges
The idea was to implement the application in the cloud that will be responsible for receiving the data from the elevator communications module, processing them and if necessary sending a notification to the concern technicians of the elevator.
Critical challenges:
- Provide extreme accuracy and reliability as the system would be used as vertical transport vehicle that moves people or goods between floors of a building.
- Support to flexible, multivariate analysis techniques that suit a range of complex processes.
- Without disturbing existing functionality it should triggers pre warning alert notifications
Solution Overview
We have designed and developed IoT Enabled remote elevator monitoring Solution primarily as per client perspective which will help them to take preventive actions before any power outage occurs.
Hardware Implementation: All pins of node are used to control elevator. After the communication between the node and gateway through Zigbee the data has been stored on cloud. This data is used for Remote Access and Monitoring.
Software Implementation: In software implementation, specific Rules has been set which will trigger the alert notification.
Rules SET:
If floor status is 10 then location out (elevator stuck in between) alert has been sent.
If the power status is 0 then notification has been sent to the concern team.
