The quality of water available to the fish is one of the most important factors in fish production. Water quality directly affects feed efficiency, growth rates and overall health status of the fish. A number of parameters can be used to measure the quality of the water available to the fish but the critical of these parameters include dissolved oxygen, un-ionized ammonia, carbon dioxide, nitrite and nitrate concentration, pH, turbidity and alkalinity level.

The hIOTron’s Remote Pond Monitoring system is a combination of Sensors, IoT Gateway, IoT platform and Mobile Application + Dashboard that enables real time data monitoring and provides data intelligence in a variety of use cases for single and multiple ponds.
HI- PMS is smart pond manager act as a main central unit which is perfectly suitable for remote pond monitoring applications powered through mains (5v/12v), having majorly Zig-Bee for local and GSM (2G,3G,4G) for cloud connectivity with in-built GNSS module. It is also equipped Li-ion for battery in case of power failure for 15-20days & EEPROM & RTC to store the records in case of network failure.

- Dissolved Oxygen Sensor
DO sensors consist of two electrodes: an anode and cathode.
Both of these electrodes are immersed in electrolytes (inside the sensor body).
An oxygen permeable membrane separates
the anode and cathode from the measured water.The permeable membrane allows oxygen from the sample water
to diffuse into the sensor, where it is reduced at the cathode.
This chemical reaction produces an electrical signal,
which travels from the cathode to the anode and then into the
dissolved oxygen measuring instrument. Consumption of oxygen at the cathode
creates a pressure difference across the membrane that varies based on the
partial pressure of oxygen in the sample. Therefore, as oxygen concentration increases,
partial pressure and the rate of diffusion also increase, and the current to the instrument increases proportionally.Why is Dissolved Oxygen Measurement is necessary?
For aquaculture, if DO level falls too low then fish will suffocate as a consequence. In a sewage treatment plant, bacteria will decompose the solids. If the DO level is too low, then bacteria will die and the composition will cease: if DO level is too high then energy will be wasted through the aeration of the water. In industrial applications, including boilers, the make up water must have low DO levels in order to avoid corrosion and boiler scale build up. Monitoring dissolved oxygen content is essential for ensuring process efficiency, because boiler scale build up inhibits heat transfer. A high DO level in water improves the taste of drinking water. However, high DO levels will increase corrosion n water plumbing and transport lines.

DO Sensor
The most common method of measuring pH is to use an electrochemical pH sensor. Combination pH sensors are type of electrochemical pH sensor that feature both a measuring electrode and a reference electrode. The measuring electrodes detect a chance in a pH value while the reference provides a stable signal for comparison. A impedance device, known as pH meter, is used to display the signal in pH units. Combination pH sensor technology can be used to build different products, including laboratory pH sensors and industrial or process pH sensors.
